“We chase extraordinary moments instead of being grateful for ordinary moments until hard shit happens. And then in the face of really hard stuff — illness, death, loss — the only thing we’re begging for is a normal moment.”
—Brené Brown
Each day I wake up and ask the universe to help me enjoy the little things, the ordinary and the everyday when asked, what do I identify as little things, my reply is, the air, the trees, breathing on my own, fresh water, good food, family, enough money, walking with ease…
For many of us, these are not always the little things. They’re sometimes mountains.
I was brought up with the saying, “If you think your situation is bad Pam, look at the Suzy Johnson’s.” Another person’s situation was always worse than mine, and that’s how many of us were taught to be grateful.
But what if we peeled back our lives and could be thankful for what is working well now without having to compare ourselves to someone or something else?
Beginnings don’t need to represent big changes or the extraordinary, they need to be more about what is and less about what isn’t. Looking back slows the process down of making our way to something more. Establishing an intention more powerful than the problem itself, creates the momentum to begin again and jump start a transition from old ways of thinking into something more current to the you of today. Free from the old stories that bind you. Free from judgement, and open to new ways of thinking without the vibration of ugliness, that can wear a person down.
With COVID taking hold of so many aspects of our life, I think now more than ever we need to take hold of what is working in our lives. The small stuff is the foundation of bigger stuff to come. When we stay present to what is good now and end the judgement of what isn’t we can move mountains.
